Claire McCarty, B Sc. Kinesiology, UCLA
Growing up in the beach side community of Malibu, Southern California I enjoyed an active lifestyle of surfing, volleyball, swimming, biking, running, horse riding & snow skiing.
Embracing this lifestyle throughout the years has taught me to take exceptional care of my health to give me vitality & strength well into the later years of life.
I was fortunate to gain an athletic scholarship for Volleyball to UCLA as a starting varsity setter. After graduating with a B.Sc. Kinesiology in 1980 I dived into the then new sport of Triathlon and continue to enjoy a competitive career that included racing both in the USA & Australia as a professional in the earlier years to an elite and age group athlete.
1981 launched me into my first Hawaiian Ironman, which was actually only my second Triathlon & as a result took me nearly 17 hours to complete! 1982 I returned to Hawaii & took 5th overall woman in 12:29. A definite improvement! That same year I moved to Lake Tahoe where I spent 7 years as a ski instructor at Kirkwood Meadows & Heavenly Valley along with Health Club Manager at Lakeside Nautilus & starting my personal training business. 1987 saw me recruited & successfully tested to be the first female firefighter at the City of South Lake Tahoe Fire Department. 1989 was a big year of change as I moved to NSW, Australia to live with my Ozzie husband who was also a firefighter. While in Australia up to 2001 I managed health clubs & had my own personal training clientele in two five star resorts & was in charge of developing corporate team building programs with facilitated learning outcomes for our conference clients using obstacle courses & high & low ropes courses meshing these outcomes with their indoor Executive Training program. I continued this work for private companies as well & in addition worked on programs that provided outdoor education for youth groups. These years in Australia also had me running canyons (canyoneering), rock climbing, abseiling & kayaking as an adventure guide for several different adventure companies.
Working in the fitness industry since 1980 has offered me the greatest of opportunities to work in a wide range of areas that include cardiac rehabilitation & lifetsyle change at the original Pritikin Institute in Santa Monica, California; working with clients of behavioral & drug rehabilitation programs; strength & conditioning training of high school athletes as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for a private High School; Triathlon coaching through on line coaching services and the Team In Training program through the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society; and private personal training encompassing general fitness, Triathlon training, swim training/technique development and sport specific fitness of all ages.
Maybe you just want to improve your strength and endurance to enjoy a longer and less pain free day of tennis or golf, skiing or snow boarding.
Maybe you want to be able to be more active with your kids or grandkids; feel more confident in your movement & balance
Maybe your goal is to improve general fitness and decrease body fat while increasing calorie hungry muscle tissue.
Whatever your goals might be, achievement through a program design based on scientific principles will provide you with the best chance of success.
The passion in my work is derived from my goal to bring out the athlete within each of my clients. No matter their age or present level of fitness.
I welcome the opportunity to help you discover that athlete within and become the best “you” you can be!
